Darrius Canty hit two free throws with 0.2 seconds left to give the Raiders a thrilling 78-77 over the third-ranked and unbeaten Rochester Yellowjackets Friday.
Thanks to some stifling defense and energy off the bench, the Raiders built a 12-point halftime lead and then held on.
Darsean Woodson finished with 18 points and DeShun Patterson with 14. It was Patterson's effort off the bench that spurred a 6-point run, punctuated by a Patterson dunk, that gave the Raiders a 37-27 lead late in the first half on their way to a 43-31 edge at the intermission.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets tightened up their defense and got back into the game. Their first lead of the second half was 62-61 with six minutes left. The teams traded buckets until two free throws from Demetrius Canty gave Rochester a 77-76 lead.
After a jump ball arrow went to the Raiders, they had time for one last offensive push with 2.2 seconds left. Free throws were a factor for the Raiders as they ended up sinking 19 of 21 from the line for the game.
The biggest free throws were the pair awarded to Canty after he was fouled on a shot attempt with 0.2 seconds left. Both free throws touched nothing but net and the Raiders dealt Rochester its first loss of the season.
