Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball coach Chad Walthall was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches Central Region Coach of the Year on Monday.
MSUM senior guard Jordan Riewer was named to the Central Region All-District First Team.
In his fifth season as MSUM's head coach, Walthall has guided the Dragons to a school-record 35-3 mark this season and led them to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the first time in school history. The Dragons will face Bellarmine University at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Elite 8 at Evansville, Ind.
A native of Staples, Walthall led the Dragons to the Central Region title last week, and also guided them to a share of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular-season title. Walthall was named the NSIC Coach of the Year in February. MSUM is 111-44 during his tenure.
Riewer, who was named to the Daktronics Division II All-American Third Team earlier Monday, earned NABC Central Region All-District First-Team honors for the first time.

The Staples-Motley graduate leads Division II in free-throw percentage (94.8), is third in assist to turnover ratio (3.41), is third in three-point percentage (49.8 percent), fourth in assists (215) and is 10th in total three-pointers made (100).
Riewer leads the NSIC in free-throw percentage and three-point percentage and is second in assist-to-turnover ratio.
For his career, Riewer has 1,378 career points and holds MSUM all-time records in three-pointers made (226) and assists (465).
