Men's College Hockey: Matt Pohlkamp offensive player of week

After sweeping Ferris State in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs, senior forward Matt Pohlkamp of Bowling Green State University has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week.

After sweeping Ferris State in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs, senior forward Matt Pohlkamp of Bowling Green State University has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week.
A Brainerd High School graduate, Pohlkamp marked up a team-leading 6-point series in the weekend's two playoffs games. On Friday, Pohlkamp opened the scoring 6:46 into the game by picking up a rebound and scored his second of the night 2:58 into the second frame to extend the Falcons lead to 3-1.

Pohlkamp also went on to assist on senior captain Sean Walker's 10th goal of the season just 52 seconds later, as well as on freshman Alec Rauhauser's goal at 5:49. Ultimately, Pohlkamp tallied three points within a 2:51 time span, leading to a Friday total of four. The 4-point performance tied his career-best, and a season high for the senior.
Saturday, Pohlkamp assisted on the opening goal that put the Falcons up 1-0 3:39 into the game. He also assisted on the power-play, empty net goal with just 34 seconds remaining in regulation, solidifying the 5-3 series sweep.

On the weekend, Pohlkamp collected two goals, four assists and six points, in addition to nine shots, two blocked shots and a plus-4 ranking.

The WCHA weekly award is Pohlkamp's first of his career, and Bowling Green's seventh of the season.
No. 4-seeded Bowling Green travels to Bemidji this weekend to face No. 1-seeded Bemidji State in the WCHA semifinals. The best-of-three series will take place March 10-12 at the Sanford Center.
