GRAND FORKS, N.D.-Brainerd High School graduate Cole Smith scored his first collegiate goal for the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks in a 5-2 victory over Rensselaer in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game Saturday.
In the lineup for the first time this season, Smith scored at 5:39 of the third period on a breakaway. He was named one of the three stars of the game.
UND hosts Bemidji State University at 7:37 p.m. Friday and 7:07 p.m. Saturday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Bowling Green loses, ties
Baxter's Mitch McLain scored a goal and Matt Pohlkamp collected an assist as the Bowling Green State University Falcons tied Western Michigan 4-4 Friday.

Western Michigan beat the Falcons 8-2 Saturday.
BGSU hosts Ohio State Friday and plays the Buckeyes at Columbus, Ohio, Saturday.
