BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-With Saturday's 2-0 victory over Alabama Huntsville, the Bowling Green State University hockey team has clinched home ice for the first round of the WCHA Playoffs.
The best-of-three first round will take place at the Slater Family Ice Arena against Ferris State University, Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4, with Sunday, March 5 if necessary.
In Saturday's game, Mitch McLain and Chris Pohlkamp collected assists in the 2-0 win. McLain scored a power-play goal and Chris Pohlkamp added an assist in Friday's 7-0 victory.
The new WCHA playoff format features a traditional 8-team bracket with no reseeding. Winner of the BGSU-FSU series will play a best-of-three series March 10-12 against the winner of the series between No. 1 Bemidji State and No. 8 Northern Michigan.
If Bemidji advances, the Beavers will host the second-round series. If NMU advances, the BGSU-FSU winner will host the second round.
