The coveted title of King of the Track is up for grabs next weekend during Brainerd International Raceway's Bracket Drag Racing Series.
Fourteen of the best drag racers who compete in BIR's Bracket Drag Racing Series will square off July 21 for the chance to hoist a Wally trophy, sport a King of the Track hat and assume bragging rights for the coming year.
The King of the Track race will take place as part of the series weekend race, July 20-22. It's the sixth of eight weekends on the series' schedule this year. The Central Roadracing Association will be on the road course for three days of high-intensity Superbike racing, as riders compete in the fourth of five weekends at BIR.
The weekend's drag racing program shapes up like this: Friday is a Test & Tune day, followed by time trials and qualifying Saturday morning and then elimination rounds the rest of the day. The King of the Track matchups will also take place throughout the day. Sunday starts with time trials and qualifying, followed by eliminations. Class winners are determined both days.
The top two drivers in the point standings will represent their class in the King of the Track race. They'll race each other first, with the winners advancing to a backeted format where the winners continue to move on until there's only one driver left standing. The 2017 King of the Track, Shawn Carlson, will not have the chance to repeat.

The CRA's schedule for the weekend includes a three-hour team race as the featured event Saturday. The weekend starts on Friday with practice and qualifying for the Michelin Cup. On Saturday, eight-lap sprint races start at 10:30 a.m., followed by the 3-Hour Team Challenge that starts at 2:30 p.m. On Sunday, the 12-lap Michelin Cup starts at 10:30 a.m., followed by eight-lap sprints and then the eight-lap Formula 40 and then the eight-lap Grand Prix Sprints.
