BARROWS -- Michael Haggar notched his first career win while Luke Hines made a trip to the winners podium for the first time in 14 years Saturday, July 20, at North Central Speedway.
The evening’s highlighted feature came in the Sports Compact class where 18 drivers made the call for the 25-lap dash for the $300 first-place prize. Alex Dostal came away with his second win of the season and claimed the top spot. Points leader Travis Roush placed second, followed by Grayson Pratt in third place. Roush's second-place finish increased his points lead to 25.
Haggar started from the front row along with Dean Shaver in the 15-lap Mod 4 feature. Shaver jumped to the lead and led for the first five laps before Haggar caught him on lap six. A caution to points leader Adam Prieve on lap 11 tightened the field, but Haggar got a good jump on the restart and he finished in front of Shaver and Jamie Lenarz to record his first career win.
Cory Probst has competed twice at NCS in the Sportsmod class, but owns feature wins in both visits. Probst ran by points leader Tim Gonska and Michael Nelson to claim the top spot in the 15-lap feature.
Mark Martini picked up his fourth win of the season in the Sportsmod feature. Jake Hagemann secured the third-place finish behind Troy Jordan. Hagemann now leads Jacob Jordan by one point in the season points race.
Dylan Nelson is dominating the points race for the Super Stock class and won his third race of the season. Ryan Schaufler led for the first four laps before Nelson caught him on lap five. Ryan Lubbers brought out a caution flag on lap six, but Nelson held the lead through the restart and raced the final 14 laps for the win in front of Butch Butcher and Austin Niemeyer.
Luke Hines was a regular at NCS in the early 2000's before taking time off from racing. He has run in 12 races this year and grabbed the checkered flag again Saturday with a win in the 20-lap Modified feature. Hines led on Lap One before giving way to AJ Viehauser on the second lap. Hines got the lead back on the third lap and didn't give it up, getting the win in front of Shawn Fletcher and Viehauser.
The points race also tightened with Aaron Johnson leading by three points over Fletcher and 13 over Justin Jones.
