DETROIT LAKES — Brainerd’s team of Annelise Baird and Lily Schaeffer won the Moorhead Invite sprint relay in 19:51.0 Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Detroit Mountain.

The Brainerd girls, led by Baird and Schaeffer, finished tied for first with Moorhead at 420 points.

Brainerd’s Allison Rice and Ellie Brown finished in second place in 21:16.0.

“It was pretty exciting to have that kind of result,” Warriors head coach Mary Claire Ryan said. “Three of our normal varsity skiers today didn’t race because they are out sick, so it was an opportunity for some other girls to compete and see how well they would fair.”

The team of Beth Ahlin and Ainsley Kresha was the top girls team for Little Falls with a seventh-place 22:53.4. The Flyers finished fourth as a team.

Brainerd won the boys title with 432 points as all four of its teams finished in the top eight led by Eli Knapp and Mitchell Neumann in second.

“We knew Mitchell and Eli were our fastest two skiers,” Ryan said. “So they showed that well today, but overall it shows with the sprinting how important it is to place more than one team in the final and then doing well in the finals.”

Little Falls boys were second with 400 points led by Connor Grant and Alex Oberton in third and Ethan Yorek and Elliot Oberton in fifth.
