Owen Baird and Tim Dirks defended their home turf Sunday as they won their respective divisions in the Lumberjack Jaunt at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.
Dirks won the 6K freestyle event in 16:09. He bettered Baxter's David Dewey and Brainerd's Devin Emslander. Hannah Trtanj was the top female finisher in the 6K freestyle with an 18:40.
Eric Gibbons of Moorhead was the top 6K classic skier. He scored a 17:46 to top Brainerd's Alexander Rice. Heather Baird was the top female and third overall finisher in the 6K classic with a 27:32.
Owen Baird raced to a 52:22 to win the 16K classic by almost nine minutes.
Paul Peterson of Hastings won the 16K freestyle with a 47:21. Former Brainerd resident Tom Lyscio was second in 48:50. Hanne Guthrie of Chanhassen was the top female finisher and placed third overall.

Brainerd High School Nordic ski coach Chris Hanson was the top area finisher with a fifth-place time of 51:07.
