CAMP RIPLEY-Hunter Zupko and Kendal Hendrickson of Little Falls and the Flyer girls team continued their season-long trends of setting the pace in their respective races in the Little Falls Pursuit Invite Monday at Camp Ripley.

Zupko was the boys winner in the pursuit event which features 5 kilometers of classic skiing in the morning followed by 5km of freestyle in the afternoon. Hendrickson was the girls pacesetter.

The Flyer girls won the 14-team event with 18 points, 41 ahead of runner-up Alexandria.

Brainerd's boys team was runner-up spurred by Gabe Raguse's fifth-place finish. Evan Storbakken was seventh and Evan Schreifels ninth as the first six Warrior boys placed in the top 17.

"Our boys are in a good position (in the section) but they still have to keep working hard," Warriors co-head coach Mary Claire Ryan. "Cathedral, Little Falls and Bemidji will be very competitive in the section race based on what we've seen so far. We have some other kids coming up and doing well. A lot of our boys moved up. To have six guys in the top 17, that's great."

The Brainerd girls finished sixth with Grace Erholtz 12th and Faith Watson 16th.

"Faith and Grace had good overall combined races," Ryan said. "One of the girls I've been waiting to come on is Abbygail Wohl-Kovatovich and she had an outstanding race. She came back from the pack and moved up in the positioning."
