ST. CLOUD — Lily Schaeffer’s third-place time of 17:27 led the Brainerd Warriors girls to second place, while the boys finished fourth in the St. Cloud Cathedral Invite Thursday, Dec. 5.
Emma Storbakken finished eighth followed by Elle Juranek and Gina Wasniewski to help the Warriors finish behind first-place Alexandria.
“It wasn’t a surprise,” Hanson said. “We predicted Alexandria would be tough competition again this year. I know they weren’t that far ahead of us. They nipped us for the team scoring, but it’s good to have the girls set a goal. And when the format changes it might be a little to our advantage. It could swing our way. This meet gave us some good incentives.”
Nole Robertson posted an eighth-place time of 16:12 to lead a young Warriors squad.
“The conditions were a little bit crowded on the loop course, but the boys performed as expected and everyone competed solidly, especially considering they were chasing some state-ranked level competition,” Hanson said. “As a team, they were pretty well clumped together. To put together a solid ski for their first meet of teh season. It gave us the coaches a really good look at what we need to work on. A positive attitude, however, is not something we have to work on.”
