By the later half of Friday we'll be on the tail end of the fast moving clipper that passed through the region. Winds will stay breezy for most of Minnesota and parts of the Red River Valley throughout the day on Friday.
Cold air makes a return this weekend and looks to last for a while. We'll kick off Saturday morning subzero for most with a large portion of the region in the teens below. The surge of cold will spark another round of light snow set to move across southern South Dakota and may clip extreme southern Minnesota as well.
Winds will be on the lighter side which will be a good thing with such cold air sitting over the region. Even this little air movement will create dangerous wind chills for the region this weekend though. The video above walks through the wind chill forecast showing some places potentially having -40° wind chills over the weekend.
Saturday afternoon will be the start of the cold trend which may last most of next week. Temperatures will only make it to single digits both above and below zero for most of the Northern Plains and parts of the Upper Midwest.
Winds pick up some for the western Dakotas on Sunday, but the rest of the area will feature lighter winds again Sunday afternoon. Wind chills will still stay quite bitter.

We'll close out this weekend with similar weather to Saturday. Highs will hit both single digits below and above by the afternoon. I'm seeing a slight chance of a few light snow showers to pass by parts of South Dakota again Sunday.
