What's Up Outdoors: Cold snap is welcome by ice anglers

The bite has been overall really good but the cold weather should improve fishing.

I can’t believe that people were surprised by the storm this week. After all it is still 2020 so we are lucky there weren’t flying monkeys.

The good thing with the wind is it might have blown the snow right off the lake so the ice won’t be too messed up. Except for Mille Lacs Lake, that ice is going to be messed up for a bit. There is some good ice out there but it’s going to need to heal up where the open spots were last week.

And of course a few people went through Red Lake last weekend, because it isn’t the beginning of the ice season until that happens. Every year people get a little too excited.

Lake of the Woods ice is coming along and the fishing reports are pretty good so far. We have still been going on smaller lakes and the bite has been overall really good, but there has been some slow days. But with this cold snap it’s going to make things a lot better really quick.

Hopefully everyone had a great Christmas, and we just need to hang on for the last week of 2020.
