Brainerd Warrior Ellen Hickman qualified for the USA Olympic Weightlifting state meet following meets at Moorhead Feb. 10 and at Little Falls in January.

At the Moorhead meet last weekend, Hickman qualified for state for a second time with a total of 105 kilograms in the 58kg weight class and won the competition. She will lift in the state meet March 10 at Lakeville South High School.

Also at Moorhead, Maddie Holm competed in the 69kg weight class and finished with a combined total of 102 kg.

Amanda Cook competed in the 75kg weight class and finished with a total of 108kg.

Cook and Holm both finished second in their respective classes.

Brett Hague placed second in the 94kg weight class with a lift of 185kg.

Olympic lifting is composed of two lifts—the snatch and the clean and jerk. These lifts are more technical than regular power lifts, and require a great amount of focus to execute.

Olympic weightlifting is a growing sport among high school athletes. The Brainerd Warriors recently completed a successful regular season.

Each Warrior athlete placed in the top three in their weight classes at the Little Falls and Moorhead competitions.
