Stu Zell of Nisswa finished sixth in the United States Bowling Congress Senior Championships July 31-Aug. 3 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev.

Bowling in the open division for age 75 and up, Zell rolled a 6-game series total of 1,305 to advance to the finals.

In the 3-game finals, Zell bowled games of 168-155-140. With 10 bonus pins, he finished with a 623 series.

Zell was among 38 bowlers who competed in his age division. In 2004, he competed in the 70-74 age bracket at the national tournament and finished fourth.

The 84-year-old qualified for the nationals by winning the singles championship in the Minnesota USBC State Tournament Oct. 21-Nov. 12, 2017, at Rush City as he rolled a 658 series with handicap. His games were 186-180-168. With his 124-pin handicap, Zell edged runner-up Thomas O'Ryan of St. Paul by six pins.
