LUTSEN—Cal Madison and Emma Hiebert were the top finishers for the Brainerd Warriors who raced to first-place finishes in both the boys and girls sides of the Cook County Invite Thursday, Jan. 10 at Lutzen Mountain.

Madison was in fifth after his first run and posted the seventh fastest time on his second to finish fifth. Rounding out the scoring for the Brainerd boys were Trevor Hutchison (10th), Anthony Elsenpeter (11th) and Parker Linn (15th).

Gavin Hoelzel was third and Max Darkow sixth after the first run, but ran into problems on their second runs, to finish 29th and 33rd respectively.

"Our boys actually won with some of our younger skiers after Gavin and Max dropped their second runs," said Brainerd head coach Jim Ruttger. Parker had his best showing of the season. He's an eighth-grader, which really really speaks to the depth of our team."

Hiebert posted two fourth-place runs as she finished fourth overall. She was followed by Maddie Kalenberg in fifth, Erin Hoelzel in sixth and Alli Krantz in seventh.

"Our girls did extremely well on both of their runs," said Ruttger. "This was a very challenging meet. The first run was on the Koo Koo course, which is very challenging. The start is about 12 gates higher than where we normally start and is very windy, steep and icy."

After four meets thus far this season, both the boys and girls have three first-place finishes and a second place.
