ROGERS-It wasn't the start they hoped for as the Brainerd Warriors dropped their season opener to the Rogers Royals 24-0 Monday, April 22.

"For some of our players, it was their first game ever," said Brainerd head coach Adam Extrand. "Rogers is very good, with a lot of skills and most of them have been playing since sixth grade."

Brainerd trailed 12-0 after the first quarter.

"Then we started playing much better," said Extrand. "We had some offensive opportunities in the second and third quarters, but by the fourth quarter, we lost that momentum.

"We have a lot of things to improve on. We need to back up and work more on basic skills. The boys are competitors and we're going to get better."

The Brainerd junior varsity lost 11-1. The Warriors hosts Monticello 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26.
