What's Up Outdoors: Chasing trophy trout on Tazin
And it's that time of year again, time to head to Tazin Lake Saskatchewan.
The excitement grew a little more as we traveled from airport to airport, seeing the lodge as we flew over on our float plane, we knew we had an amazing two weeks ahead of us.
Myself and Bret Amundson made the trip to this great place to catch some monsters and get it all on film. And of course with Bret there would be plenty of photos to document the trip. As we were greeted at the dock by old friend and owner Trevor Montgomery and new owner Barry Prall we could tell there was a little more excitement in the air. There isn't much that could improve the place but the addition of a float plane at the dock was pretty cool.
Within the hour we were in the boat headed for big fish country, which at Tazin Lake is pretty much everywhere. And almost immediately Barry hooked into a monster lake trout, followed by a couple more trophy fish to top off the first day. The next few days the weather hadn't really cooperated but we are still managing a few huge fish, the biggest being Trevor's 51.5-inch-long, 22-inch round northern pike that put on quite an air show before making its way into the net. Within the next few day it will be time to put down the camera and try my luck at beating last year's 46-inch trout, a monster in anyone's book but after all this is Tazin. The place to go to break records.
