What's Up Outdoors: A fishing trip to remember
While everyone else is making their Memorial Day plans I'm just returning from spending the week in Ely. This week was the annual Veterans Fishing Trip at Veterans on the Lake Resort. I've been making this trip for four years now and it's great to see so many familiar faces and also getting to meet some new ones.
To tell you the truth it's kind of hard coming home to holiday traffic after a week of peace and quiet. Fall Lake isn't really a hidden lake but it's not really busy either. So it's a great place to hold the event, you get the up north experience without having to carry a canoe.
This year I got to share my boat with Jerry Breletick and Bill Wroolie and, even though the weather really didn't cooperate, we still had a great time in the boat. We managed to catch our fair share of walleyes and had plenty of laughs in the boat. Even though we didn't catch any trophy fish it will still be a trip to remember.
So this year on Memorial Day I'm just glad I have the opportunity to go to these events, with the people who made it possible for me to do it. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day everyone.
