So far the fishing season is off with a bang -- well, mostly.

If you want to spend the day catching fish on pretty much anything you tie on your line Mille Lacs Lake is definitely the place to be. We’ve been fishing pretty shallow so far, 6-13 feet of water has been the best depth. Even though you can’t keep any, if you have kids you want to keep occupied you can’t beat it. Rig up some slip bobber rigs with leeches and you will be busy baiting hooks.

As for the crappies, it’s been kind of weird. Even though some lakes were right on target, if not even a bit early, some of my best spots were still too cold. Actually last weekend we found water temps colder than two weeks prior. But with the warm days this week that should all change. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day everyone.
