Pequot Lakes Youth Sports is sponsoring a fall/winter basketball program for girls and for boys. The Youth Sports basketball is for students who are in grades 3 through 6. Girls and boys will be on separate teams. All girls will practice on Monday or Tuesday evenings. All boys will practice on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. Gym availability will determine the practice night schedule.

The Pequot Lakes Youth Sports third to sixth grade basketball season will run from approximately Oct. 26 through to Dec. 12. Players will have a practice and a game each week (depending on gym availability). Practice times vary between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Practices and games will be held at Pequot Lakes in the high school, at Eagle View or in Crosslake.

Youth Sports basketball focuses on coordination skills, team play, sportsmanship and fun. Equal play time for all players is encouraged. All participants in the Youth Sports basketball program will receive a jersey to use during the playing season. The jersey is to be returned to the coach at the end of the basketball season.

The registration fee is $48 per individual player. Late registration will be accepted after Oct. 13 with the payment of a late fee; late registrations are $58 per player. Registrations after Oct. 13 will be accepted if space is available and will be assessed a $10 late fee. Completed forms and registration payment must be turned in to the Community Education office by the registration deadline to guarantee playing during this season. The Community Education office is located on the south end of the Pequot Lakes High School building. Enter at Door No. 4. The mailing address is Pequot Lakes Youth Sports at 30805 Olson St., Pequot Lakes, MN, 56472. Make registration checks payable to PL Youth Sports.

You may register and pay for the basketball team online until 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 13. The online registration system does not accept late registrations. To complete an online registration go to https://pequotlakes.revtrak.net/tek9.asp?pg=Community_Ed

No player will be turned away for inability to pay the registration fee. Arrangements for a scholarship must be made at the time of registration. If the need arises, the registration fee may only be refunded (less an administrative fee) prior to the second practice of the season. Questions can be directed to Youth Sports at 218-568-8090 or to Community Education at 218-568-9200.

Parent coaches are needed for the teams. The success of the Youth Sports experience depends on the volunteers who coach and support the players. The team roster, practice schedule and the game schedule will be distributed to players by email.

Kindergarten through second grade basketball will take place in January and February. Watch for registration information in November.
