Noah Peterson, a 10th grader at Brainerd High School was honored by being one of two youths selected to the B.A.S.S. High School All-State Team. A panel of judges looked at not only tournament success, but also academic achievement and community involvement in selecting 64 young anglers to represent 36 different states, according to a Bassmaster release.
A separate panel of judges will select 12 of these student anglers for the High School All-American Team. Those 12 All-Americans will get a chance to compete in a one-day All-American High School tournament on Lake Texoma in Oklahoma.
Peterson, 15, is a member of the Brainerd Warrior Fishing Team, which was started last year by Jason Bahr. There are currently more than 100 high school and junior high students signed up, making it the largest student team in the nation. The team has received tremendous community support, and gives back to the community by assisting in local charity and fundraising events. Last year, the Warrior Fishing Team took 4 of the top 5 places in the high school state championship held on Mille Lacs Lake. The Warrior team of Logan Beto and Kyle Bahr took first place. This year, there will be two different high school state championships in the Brainerd lakes area. The Bass Anglers Sportsman Society tournament will be held on Whitefish Lake June 17 and the Student Angler Federation tournament will again be on Mille Lacs July 31.
