Area Baseball: Aitkin scores 11 on C-I

It was a night of doubleheaders.

AITKIN — Carson Kullhem was 3-4 with two runs and an RBI and Landon Janzen drove in two runs for the Aitkin Gobblers in an 11-1 Mid-State Conference victory over Crosby-Ironton Tuesday, May 3.

Zack MacDonald went 1-1 with two walks, three runs and an RBI. Zack Ehnstrom, Gus Sanford, Dayton Hallaway and Tanner Hills all had two hits for Aitkin.

Jacob Millsop and Brayden Holmvig collected C-I’s two hits.

PEQUOT LAKES — Pequot Lakes’ Clay Erickson went 3-5 with three RBIs for the Patriots as they beat the Park Rapids Panthers 6-5 in Game One of a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Tuesday, May 3.

Grant Loge went 1-4 with a double and Nic Kotaska went 2-5 with a double, a run and an RBI.

The Patriots shut out the Panthers 10-0 in Game Two with Andrew Villareal going 1-3 with a double and two RBIs.

KELLIHER — Pine-River Backus’ Ethan Rugroden went 3-4 with two runs and six RBIs for the Tigers as they defeated Kelliher/Northome 20-3 in Game One of a doubleheader Tuesday, May 3.

In Game Two, the Tigers defeated Lake of the Woods 13-3 with Irvin Tulenchik striking out six and Corbin Knapp going 2-4 with three RBIs and two runs.

PIERZ — Pierz’s Max Barclay went 3-4 with two RBIs for the Pierz Pioneers as they defeated the Milaca Wolves 12-2 Tuesday, May 3.

Hunter Hoheisel also tallied two RBIs for the Pioneers while Louis Gruber contributed three runs in the Granite Ridge Conference win.

S-M drops 2

STAPLES — Staples-Motley’s Josh Kossan finished 4-8 with a triple as the Cardinals fell to the Detroit Lakes lakers 11-5 and 6-0 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Tuesday, May 3.

Colbe Tappe was 2-2 and Joe Tyrrell was 2-4 for the Cardinals in Game One.

In Game Two, Kossan was 2-3 with a triple and Sam Opheim collected S-M’s other hit.
