Area Baseball: Aitkin scores 41 runs in Mid-State sweep

Six area teams were in action Monday, May 16.

AITKIN — Landon Janzen went 5-for-7 with a home run, two doubles and seven RBIs as the Aitkin Gobblers swept the Staples-Motley Cardinals 23-0 and 18-2 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Monday, May 16.

Carson Kullhem went 5-6 with a home run, six runs and two RBIs for the Gobblers who improved to 9-2.

Jesse Goettig struck out five over four innings for the Game One win. Jake Anderson got struck out six over 3.2 innings for the Game Two win.

Griffin Bettis doubled in Game One and Josh Kossan doubled in Game Two for Staples-Motley and Joe Tyrell recorded two hits in Game Two.

PRB 5, BHV 3

PINE RIVER — Pine River-Backus’ Irvin Tulenchik struck out nine over six innings as the Tigers beat the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders 5-3 in a non-conference game Monday, May 15.

Tulenchik went 1-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored while Rian Compton went 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Tigers.

BHV’s Kole Weishalla threw six innings for the Raider and struck out six while Kobe Kinzmann went 2-4 with a run and RBI.

PARKERS PRAIRIE — Tyson Barthel pitched a no-hitter and struck out four for the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines as they defeated the Parkers Prairie Panthers 8-0 Monday, May 16.

Josh Dykhoff tallied two hits and an RBI for the Wolverines while Payton Rondestvedt doubled and had two RBIs.

PINE CITY — Crosby-Ironton’s Clayton Lingen went 2-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for the Rangers as they fell 12-9 to the Pine City Dragons Monday, May 16, in a non-conference game.
