Area Baseball: Cardinals hold Huskies to one hit

STAPLES — Staples-Motley’s Joshua Kossan went 2-3 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Cardinals as they beat the Pillager Huskies 3-0 Thursday, May 5.

Joe Tyrrell pitched 6.2 innings striking out five and giving up just one hit on his last batter faced.

Tytan Skeesick pitched five innings for the Huskies tallying 10 strikeouts in the non-conference game.

OSAKIS — Pierz’s Reese Young went 3-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored for the Pioneers as they beat the Osakis Silverstreaks 11-1 Thursday, May 5.

Jeremy Bingesser and Ben Virnig each recorded triples for the Pioneers.

Pitcher Andy Winscher struck out six in five innings. He allowed two hits in the non-conference game.

CASS LAKE — Pine River-Backus’ Chance Abraham pitched three innings for the Tigers allowing only one hit and striking out seven as they defeated the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers 14-2 in Game One of a doubleheader Thursday, May 5.

Irvin Tulenchik went 3-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs while Owen Carlson went 2-2 with four runs.

Also tallying doubles for the Tigers were Ryder Compton and Cash Kangas.
