PEQUOT LAKES — Nic Kotaska struck out 10 to earn the Game One win as the Pequot Lakes Patriots split with the Staples-Motley Cardinals 11-3 and 9-7 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Tuesday, May 17.
Pequot’s Andrew Villareal was 2-4 with two RBIs and Grant Loge tallied two hits and an RBI in the Game One win.
S-M’s Josh Kossan picked up the loss as he struck out five over 5.2 innings. Griffin Bettis went 3-3 with a triple and Jack Carlson finished 2-3.
Colbe Tappe was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals in Game Two. He struck out five over five innings and hit a double. Justin Phillippi went 2-4 with three RBIs and Kossan and Carlson both picked up three hits in the win.
Taevyn Brown drove in three runs for the Patriots in Game Two while Kotaska finished with two hits.

WADENA — Peyton Church doubled in three runs and Evan Lund finished 2-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs for the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines in a 12-2 Park Region Conference victory over the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders Tuesday, May 17.
Josh Dykhoff homered, walked, scored three times and drove in two runs for WDC. Connor Davis pitched the win. He struck out four in three innings and allowed one run on three hits and four walks.
BHV’s Torii Hagen finished 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Joshua Johnson and Kole Weishalla both finished with two hits and a run scored.

LITTLE FALLS — Matt Filippi finished 2-5 with a double and an RBI and threw a complete game for the Little Falls Flyers in a 3-1 Granite Ridge Conference loss Tuesday, May 17, to the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders.
Filippi struck out four over seven innings. He allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits and one walk.
George Moore, Carter Oothoudt and Riley Czech collected Little Falls’ other hits.
