Area Baseball: Dykhoff, WDC hold Cards to on hit

Eight area teams were in action Monday.

STAPLES — Connor Davis finished 2-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored as Wadena-Deer Creek defeated Staples-Motley 10-0 Monday, May 23, in non-conference action.

Payton Rondestvedt went 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Evan Lunde tripled and scored two runs and Josh Dykhoff scored twice.

Dykhoff also pitched the one-hit victory. He struck out eight over three innings.

Sam Opheim collected S-M’s only hit.

MORA — Aitkin’s Jackson MacDonald went 3-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored for the Gobblers as they beat the Mora Mustangs 4-3 Monday, May 23.

Jesse Goettig struck out 11 over seven innings and scattered five hits.

NORTH WOODS — Pequot Lakes’ Griffin Hoffman went 2-for2 with four RBIs and two runs scored for the Patriots as they defeated North Woods 18-2 Monday, May 23.

Grant Lodge tallied a triple for the Patriots while Clay Erickson went 3-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

STAPLES — Griffin Bettis hit a walk-off single to score Ben Tyrrell and hand the Staples-Motley Cardinals to a 4-3 victory Monday, May 23, over the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders.

Justin Phillippi went 2-4 with a double and Josh Kossan was also 2-4.

Colbe Tappe, Sam Opheim, Tyrrell and Jack Carlson all had hits for the Cardinals.

DETROIT LAKES — Pine River-Backus’ Cadenaden Hamilton went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored but th Tigers fell 15-5 to the Detroit Lakes Lakers Monday, May 23.

Konnor King and Irvin Tulenchik also recorded hits for the Tigers.

Sebeka 4, Pillager 2

SEBEKA — Connor Hanson finished 3-for-4 for the Pillager Huskies in a 4-2 Park Region Conference loss to the Sebeka Trojans Monday, May 23.

Eli Miller was tagged with the loss, but he allowed just three unearned runs and struck out four in five innings of work. He and Kaden Imdieke were both 2-4 at the plate.

Prior to the Sebeka game, Pillager and Menahga finished a game that started on April 19. Menahga won the game 11-3.
