Area Baseball: Ehnstrom’s big day has Aitkin in section semis

Three area teams were in action Wednesday.

PROCTOR — Jackson MacDonald’s run was all the offense Zack Ehnstrom would need as he pitched the No. 3 Aitkin Gobblers to a 1-0 victory over No. 11 Pequot Lakes in the Section 7-2A Quarterfinals Wednesday, June 1.

Ehnstrom struck out eight over 6.2 innings. He allowed just two hits and no walks for the victory. He also produced both of Aitkin’s hits as he finished 2-3 at the plate.

Nic Kotaska and Taevyn Brown produced Pequot’s two hits.

Caden Nelson was tagged with the loss, but it was Pequot’s three errors that were his undoing. Nelson allowed one unearned run on two hits and one walk. He struck out two over six innings.

Aitkin 8, Milaca 1

PROCTOR — Zack Ehnstrom went 2-4 with a double and three RBIs as the No. 3 seeded Aitkin Gobblers used a seven-run fourth inning to dispatch the No. 14 Milaca Wolves 8-1 in the opening round of the Section 7-2A Tournament Wednesday, June 1.

Jesse Goettig pitched the victory. He allowed one unearned run on five hits and four walks. He struck out eight over seven innings.

Zack MacDonald finished 2-3 with a walk, double, run and two RBIs. Landon Janzen hit a triple and Gus Sanford was 2-3 with a run and an RBI for Aitkin.

Pequot Lakes 6, Mesabi East 1

PROCTOR — Clay Erickson struck out seven over seven innings and allowed just one unearned run to pitch the No. 11 Pequot Lakes Patriots to a 6-1 upset victory over No. 6 Mesabi East in the opening round of the Section 7-2A Tournament Wednesday, June 1.

Erickson scattered six hits and one walk for the win. He also walked twice and scored once to help his cause.

Grant Loge was 2-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. Taevyn Brown doubled and drove in two runs and scored. Caden Nelson and Alex Peterson also drove in runs for the Patriots.

WDC 6, Kimball 0

ST. CLOUD — Payton Rondestvedt tossed a complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines defeated the Kimball Cubs 6-0 in the Section 6-2A Quarterfinals Wednesday, June 1.


Connor Davis finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Josh Dykhoff doubled and also drove in two.

Rodenstvedt added a triple as W-DC advances to the Section 6-2A Semifinals to face Pierz.
