Area Baseball: Winscher pitches Pierz past Flyers

Six area teams were in action Thursday, April 28.

LITTLE FALLS — Andy Winscher allowed two runs and struck out nine in six innings to pitch the Pierz Pioneers past the Little Falls Flyers 5-2 in a Granite Ridge Conference game Thursday, April 28.

Winscher also scored two runs while driving in one. Jeremy Bingesser went 2-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Zach Gwost pitched four innings for the Flyers. He allowed three earned runs and struck out nine and was tagged with the loss.

Lawrence Filippi hit a double while scoring a run for the Flyers.

Pine River-Backus 13, Bagley 3

PINE RIVER — Chance Abraham went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs while ripping two triples as Pine River-Backus defeated Bagley 13-3 Thursday, April 28.

Ryder Compton pitched the win. He went four innings while striking out five and added a two-RBI double.

Rian Struss and Konnor King each tallied two hits for the Tigers in the win.

Staples-Motley splits

STAPLES — Josh Kossan finished 4-4 with a home run, two doubles and a Game Two victory as the Staples-Motley Cardinals split with the Park Rapids Panthers with a 5-3 loss and a 4-0 victory Thursday, April 28.

In Game One, Griffin Bettis pitched a complete-game seven-hitter. He struck out three. Kossan was 2-2 with a home run and a double. Joe Tyrrell and Jack Carlson each singled.

In Game Two, Kossan struck out five, walked one and scattered three hits. He was 2-2 with a double.

Justin Phillippi and Jack Carlson doubled for S-M

UPSALA — Clayton Lingen went 3-3 with a run and an RBI as the Crosby-Ironton Rangers fell to the Upsala Cardinals 13-3 in a non-conference game Thursday, April 28.

Ky Gressman and Carter DeCent each picked up two hits for the Rangers while Brayden Holmvig picked up the loss on the mound.

Derek Hoglin recorded Pillager’s lone extra-base hit with a double.
