Area Girls Basketball: Late free throw seals Pioneers’ win

The Crosby-Ironton Rangers traveled to Pierz for a Section 7-2A matchup Monday, Jan. 17.

PIERZ — Ashley Kimman finished with 10 points, including the tying basket with 1:28 remaining, and Alyssa Sadlovsky hit the game-winning free throw with 23 seconds left to lead the Pierz Pioneers to a 49-48 victory over the Crosby-Ironton Rangers in a Section 7-2A showdown Monday, Jan. 17.

Kiara Olesch led the Pioneers with 17 points as they improved to 11-3 and collected their fifth-straight victory.

Tori Oehrlein led the Rangers with 21 points and Mya Decent followed with 13, but C-I shot just 34% from the field, including just 8-of-26 from 3-point to fall to 10-5 overall.

Prior to Monday’s game, Pierz was second in the Section 7-2A standings behind Pequot Lakes with a 2-1 section record and a 14 Quality Results Formula rating. C-I was sitting sixth with a 6-3 section record and a 24 QRF.
