Area Girls Tennis: Little Falls doubles team advances

The Little Falls Flyers competed in the South Subsection 8-2A Individual tournament.

SARTELL —Little Falls’ No. 3 seeded team of Beth Ahlin and Ashley Hagen advanced to the doubles quarterfinals after winning their opening round match 6-0, 6-3 in the South Subsection 8-2A Individual Tournament on Friday.

No. 3 seeded Claire Kimman advanced to the singles quarterfinals with a 6-0, 6-1 victory before dropping her quarterfinals match 6-2, 6-1.

Julie Vetch and Tori Gottwalt won their play-in round doubles match in three sets before losing in the opening round to the No. 1 seed.

No. 9 seeded Jenna Athman dropped her opening round match for the Flyers 6-4, 6-1.

Opening round: Claire Kimman (LF) def. Sophie Jones (Big Lake) 6-0, 6-1; Adali Laidlaw (Willmar) def. Jenna Athman (LF) 6-4, 6-1

SARTELL — The No. 2 doubles team of Julia Vetsch-Hailey McDuffey pulled out a straight-set victory for the No. 4 seeded Little Falls Flyers, who were knocked out of the South Subsection 8-2A Team Tournament 4-3 by the top-seeded St. Cloud Crush on Thursday.

Claire Kimman and Elise Ballou captured singles victories for the Flyers’ other two points.
