Area Softball: Geschwill continues to be unhittable for Pequot

STAPLES — Kaitlyn Geschwill struck out 12 of the 14 batters she faced on the way to her third straight no-hitter as Pequot Lakes swept Staples-Motley 21-1 and 17-0 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Thursday, May 5.

Morgan Eckes started Game One and struck out seven batters without giving up a run in the four-inning complete game.

Maci Martini was 3-5 with a double and four RBIs while Kelsi Martini tallied two doubles and three RBIs. The Cardinals' lone hit came from Jade Storry.

Geschwill walked two batters, but struck out 12 in the four-inning contest with the Patriots winning 17-0. Eckes went 3-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Isabelle Larson finished 2-2 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

DETROIT LAKES — Crosby-Ironton’s Mya Decent slammed a home run for the Rangers in Game One of a Mid-State Conference doubleheader as they beat the Detroit Lakes Lakers 22-2 Thursday, May 5.

Brynn Hollenhorst went 3-3 with a run scored and four RBIs for the Rangers in Game One. Josie Schaefer, Lilliana Young, Brooke Johnson and Briana Miller all recorded doubles.

In Game Two, the Rangers fell to the Lakers 15-0. Hollenhorst went 2-2 in the nightcap.

PIERZ — The St Cloud Cathedral hitters got to Pierz starting pitcher Frankie Seelen for seven runs on 10 hits as the Pioneers were dealt their first loss of the season, 10-3, in a Granite Ridge Conference game Thursday, May 5.

Pierz’s Lily Riley was 1-2 and Kendra Melby added one hit, a run and a walk.

PRB wins 2

PINE RIVER — Pine River-Backus’ Sawyer Tulenchik went 2-2 with a triple, three runs and six RBIs as the Tigers crushed the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers 31-10 in Game One of an Upper Mississippi Conference doubleheader Thursday, May 5.

Ramsey Tulenchik went 2-5 with two runs scored and five RBIs for the Tigers.

In Game Two, the Tigers beat the Panthers 16-3 with Sawyer Tulenchik going 2-3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Mara Adams and Maegan Irish each recorded three runs in Game Two for the Tigers.

BATTLE LAKE — Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale’s Madison Schmitz went 2-4 with a triple, a double, four RBIs and two runs scored as the Raiders beat the Ottertail Central Bulldogs 11-4 in Game One of a doubleheader Thursday, May 5th.

Skylar Bertram went 2-3 with an RBI and three runs scored while Hailey Hudalla tallied a double and two runs for BHV in the Park Region Conference game.

Miranda Lane slammed a double for BHV in Game Two as they beat Ottertail Central 6-4.

Bertram went 2-3 with an RBI in Game Two.

WDC splits with Panthers

WADENA — Wadena-Deer Creeks’ Jenna Dykhoff tallied seven total hits in a Park Region Conference doubleheader split against Parkers Prairie Thursday, May 5.

The Wolverines won the first game 13-3 and lost the second game 21-20.

In Game One, Dykhoff and Addi Carr both finished with two hits, two runs and three RBIs.

Montana Carsten pitched five innings. She struck out seven and walked three.

The Panthers bounced back to win a slugfest in Game Two. Dykhoff was 5-6 with three doubles, a triple and five RBIs.

Carr and Carsten each were 3-5 with Carr getting two doubles.
