Area Softball: No. 2 Pioneers oust Osakis

Five area teams were in action Monday.

PIERZ — Kiara Olesch finished 3-4 with a home run, double and four RBIs as No. 2 seeded Pierz Pioneers posted a 7-4 victory over No. 15 Osakis in the Section 6-2A opening round Monday, May 23.

Frankie Seelen struck out five in five innings. She allowed four runs on three walks and two hits for the win.

Britney Schommer secured the save. She pitched the final two innings. She struck out two and allowed one hit.

Brenna Dickmann hit a double and drove in two runs.

Pequot Lakes 8, Milaca 0

PEQUOT LAKES — Morgan Eckes struck out nine in the circle and went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the No. 3 Pequot Lakes Patriots beat the No. 14 Milaca Wolves 8-0 in the Section 6-2A opening round Monday, May 23.

Maya Orvis ripped a double for Pequot’s only extra-base hit in the win.

PINE RIVER — Debren Popkes went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a double for the No. 4 Pine River-Backus Tigers in their 17-10 win over the No. 5 Nevis Tigers in the West Subsection 5A Quarterfinals Monday, May 23.

Ramsey Tulenchik also had four hits and Chloe Beavers and Victoria Koering ripped doubles for PRB.

Aaliyah Lewis got the win and struck out nine. She also had two hits and two RBIs.
