Area Softball: Pierz, Pequot Lakes to square off in section semis

Seven area teams were in action Tuesday.

Sauk Centre 3

WAITE PARK — Kaitlyn Geschwill went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI while also striking out 11 and picking up the win as the No. 3 Pequot Lakes Patriots defeated the No. 6 Sauk Centre Mainstreeters 8-3 in the Section 6-2A Quarterfinals Tuesday, May 24.

Isabel Larson finished 2-2 with a double and two RBIs and Maci Martini went 2-3 with a double for Pequot.

WAITE PARK — Pierz’s Frankie Seelen struck out eight over five innings to pitch the No. 2 seeded Pioneers to a 10-0 victory over the No. 10 Paynesville Bulldogs in the Section 6-2A Quarterfinals Tuesday, May 24.

Kendra Melby went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Lily Riley went 1-3 with a run scored for the Pioneers.

AITKIN — The No. 6 Aitkin Gobblers defeated No. 11 North Lakes Academy 16-1 in the Section 7-2A Opening round Tuesday, May 24.

Aitkin advances to the Section 7-2A quarterfinals against the winner of Eveleth-Gilbert and Pine City.

BARNESVILLE — Jada Dykhoff recorded an RBI double for the No. 6 Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines as they lost 6-1 to the No. 3 Barnesville Trojans in the Section 8-2A Opening Round Tuesday, May 24.

Montana Carsten was tagged with the loss in the circle as she struck out three over six innings.

Wadena-Deer Creek ends its season with a record of 9-11.

WALKER — Caylei Johnson drove in a run in the top of the seventh for the No. 4 Pine River-Backus Tigers but they could not complete the comeback as they lost 2-1 to the No. 1 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves in the West Subsection 5-1A Semifinals Tuesday, May 24

Aaliyah Lewis pitched a complete game for the Tigers as she struck out six but took the loss.

CROSBY — Crosby-Ironton’s Brooke Johnson tallied a triple and four RBIs for the No. 7 Rangers as they fell 22-11 to the No. 10 Mora Mustangs in the Section 7-2A Opening round Tuesday, May 24.

Shy Andrews went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored for the Rangers in their final game of the season.
