Area Softball: Staples-Motley upends PRB in slugfest

PINE RIVER — Brianna Bendson went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs as the Staples-Motley Cardinals defeated the Pine River-Backus Tigers 15-9 in a non-conference game Monday, May 9.

Isabel Birkholz got the win in the circle for S-M as she went seven innings and struck out five while giving out six earned runs.

Jade Storry finished 2-4 with three RBIs for the Cardinals.

Victoria Koering went 3-5 with a double and three RBIs for PR-B while Ariana Burns was 2-3 with two RBIs and a double.

Chloe Beavers finished 2-2 with two runs and Ramsey Tulenchik added a double for the Tigers.

Aaliyah Lewis was tagged with the loss for PR-B as she struck out 11 and gave up eight earned runs.

PEQUOT LAKES — Morgan Eckes struck out eight with one earned run and went 2-for-3 with a RBI as the Pequot Lakes Patriots beat the Milaca Wolves 6-3 Monday, May 9.

The win moves the Patriots to 10-0.

Pillager splits

PILLAGER — Hannah Christle was 7-for-9 with two doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored over two games as the Pillager Huskies split a Park Region Conference doubleheader with the Menahga Braves winning 8-0 and losing 14-9 Monday, May 9.

Briana Blais pitched seven shutout innings in Game One, as she struck out six and scattered six hits for the Huskies.

Brooklyn Rudrud, Tessa Danielson and Jenna Woidyla each recorded two hits for Pillager in Game One.

Christle went 4-5 with two doubles and two RBIs in the Game Two loss. Rudrud added three hits along with Olivia Peterson and Woidyla.

Juliana Ewald also had a multi-hit game as the Huskies tallied 17 hits in Game Two.

Rudrud got the Game Two loss and pitched five innings and struck out three
