Area Volleyball: Pirates, Tigers advance in 5-1A

Three area teams hit the hardcourt for section volleyball.

Verndale 3, Swanville 1

VERNDALE — Reagan Ludovissie posted 10 kills, 10 set assists and seven digs as the No. 2 seeded Verndale Pirates eliminated No. 3 Swanville 3-1 in the Section 5-1A Quarterfinals Friday, Oct. 28.

Taylor Johnson led the Pirates with 17 digs and Mallory Uselman added 14 set assists, 6 digs and four kills.

Pine River-Backus 3, McGregor 0

PINE RIVER — Cate Travis racked up 12 digs and nine ace serves to lead the top-seeded Pine River-Backus Tigers to a 3-0 sweep of the No. 4 McGregor Mercs in the Section 5-1A Quarterfinals Friday, Oct. 29.

Alura Dahl recorded 30 set assists and three ace serves. Hannah Barchus also finished with three ace serves to go with eight kills and nine digs for the Tigers.

COLERAINE — Jessica Much and Emma Ostrowski both finished with 18 digs as the No. 4 seeded Aitkin Gobblers fell to top-seeded Greenway in the Section 7-2A Quarterfinals Friday, Oct. 29

Baylie O’Neil finished with six kills and six digs and Teagan Piecek led the Gobblers with eight kills.
