Area Wrestling: Aitkin’s Larson reaches 150 career wins

Six area wrestling teams hit the mat Thursday, Jan. 20.

CLOQUET — Marshall Larson scored a 12-4 major decision over Deer River’s Tygh Gullickson to secure his 150th career victory and his 500th career takedown Thursday, Jan. 20, as the Aitkin Gobblers earned two victories.

The Gobblers downed Deer River 58-13, as Craig Ashton secured his 60th career win with a forfeit, and topped Cloquet 76-4.

Larson finished 2-0 to become the fifth Aitkin wrestler to reach 150 career wins. He’s believed to be the first Gobbler to reach 500 takedowns.

John Pelarski, Kyle Hacker, Nathan Trotter, James Erickson, Kenny Erkckson, Carson Kullhem, Jacob Williams, Dan Decent, Jack Grell, Zach Leitinger and Ashton all finished 2-0 for Aitkin, which improved to 11-1.

Little Falls wins 2

FERGUS FALLS — Joey Wilczek, Wyatt Baum and Alexander Schmitz each finished 2-0 with a pin as Little Falls swept a pair of matches Thursday, Jan. 20.

The Flyers defeated Fergus Falls 46-20 and Sauk Rapids 71-6.

Noah Cameron, Austin Litke, Dominic Scepurek, Ryan Kloeckl, Ivan Petrich and Eli Van Risseghem also swept their matches as the Flyers moved to 9-10 overall.

ALBANY — Chance Abraham pinned both of his opponents at 152 pounds as Class 2A’s fourth-ranked Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew defeated the Albany Huskies 55-9 and Annandale/Maple Lake 44-23 at the Albany Triangular Thursday, Jan. 20.

Trey Tuchtenhagen and Connor Tulenchik both picked up wins after each wrestling a match at 170 and 182.

Parker Zutter, Owen Carlson, Corbin Knapp and Austin Staricha each picked up two wins for the Road Crew who improved to 15-1.
