Athletics: Brainerd will be buzzing with prep activities

Postseason play is stating to heat up.

BRAINERD — Brainerd will be a softball hotspot Tuesday, May 31.

Not only do the Warriors host the Section 8-4A playoffs, but Section 5-1A will also be playing its games in Brainerd between the high school field and Central Lakes College.

Section 5-1A will begin play at 10:30 a.m. Menahga vs. Mille Lacs will play at the high school, while Walker-Hackensack-Akeley vs. Hinckley-Finlayson will be played at CLC.

A second game among those four teams will be played at 12:30 p.m. at the high school.

Section 8-4A will kick off with Elk River vs. Moorhead at Central Lakes College at 3 p.m. Buffalo will face Rogers at the high school at 3 p.m. The winners of those two games will play at CLC at 5 p.m.

The 22-0 and top-seeded Brainerd Warriors will play the Winner’s Bracket Championship game against No. 2 seeded St. Michael-Albertville (17-5) at 5 p.m. at the high school The winner of that game will then face whoever comes back out of the loser’s bracket 6 p.m. Thursday, June 2. If a second section final game is needed it is currently scheduled for Friday, June 3.

Admission for the Section 8-4A games is $8 for adults and $5 for students. There will be concessions at Brainerd High School.

According to the Quality Results Formula, Brainerd is currently the No. 1 team in the state. STMA is No. 6. Neither team has lost to a section opponent and the Knights have won four straight and six out of their last seven games.

Baseball

The Brainerd Warriors baseball team landed the No. 7 seed for the Section 8-4A playoffs. They will play 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 at the No. 2 seeded Rogers Royals.

The Warriors finished the regular season with a 7-12 record. Rogers finished 15-5 overall and 5-2 against section opponents. Brainerd was 4-5 against section opponents including an 11-2 loss to Rogers May 14.

St. Michael-Albertville earned the No. 1 seed and will face the winner of No. 8 Buffalo vs. No. 9 St. Cloud.

No. 4 seeded Bemidji will open against No. 5 Moorhead. No. 3 Elk River will host NO. 6 Sartell.

The semifinal games and loser’s bracket games will be Thursday, June 2 The section championship games will be Thursday, June 9.

Girls Lacrosse

The Brainerd Warriors will be home.

After finishing the regular season with a program-best 8-4 record, including 6-1 against Section 8 opponents, the Warrior will open postseason play at Adamson Field in Brainerd.

The No. 6 seeded Warriors will host No. 11 Rocori 4 p.m. Monday, May 30. The winner will advance to play No. 3 St. Michael-Albertville 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 1.

Buffalo landed the No. 2 seed and will face the winner of No. 7 Becker and NO. 10 Sartell-Sauk Rapids.

No. 4 Monticello will host No. 5 Moorhead Tuesday and the No. 1 seeded Elk River/Zimmerman will face the winner of No. 8 St. Cloud and No. 9 Big Lake.

The section championship game is scheduled for Thursday, June 9 at the high seed. The Warriors defeated Rocori 16-1 April 25 in their only meeting.

Boys Lacrosse

The Brainerd Warriors boys team also will be at home to open Section 8 play.

This will be the first postseason home game for the Warriors boys’ program. No. 8 Brainerd (5-7) will open against No. 9 Becker (2-10) 6 p.m. Monday, May 30.

The Warriors defeated Becker 15-6 May 5.

The winner of Brainerd vs. Becker will advance to face the No. 1 seed St. Michael-Albertville 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 1.

No. 4 Providence Academy will host No. 5 Sartell-Sauk Rapids.

No. 3 Monticello will face the winner of No. 6 Elk River vs. No. 11 Rocori.

Moorhead earned the No. 2 seed and will face the winner of No. 7 St Cloud and No. 10 Big Lake.

The Section championship game is scheduled for June 9.
