Girls Swimming and Diving: Warriors send 18 to second day of sections

BRAINERD — Mya Tautges, Isabelle Ploof and Autumn Larson led a strong field of Brainerd swimmers into the section championship heats following the Section 8-2A swimming prelims Friday, Nov. 11, at Brainerd High School.

Tautges finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and fifth in the 100 freestyle. Ploof was a third-place finisher in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100 freestyle. Larson secured the eighth spot in the 500 freestyle and sixth place in the 100 butterfly.

Top finishers along with Tautges were Kaia Iske who was second in the 100 butterfly and Avery Duerr with a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

Mariah Alderson also advanced with a fifth-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Brynn Haapajoki was fifth in the 100 breaststroke and Gabby Chalupsky finished seventh in the 100 freestyle.

Duerr was also eighth in the 200 individual medley.


The top 16 swimmers in each event advance to Saturday’s section final. The top eight will compete in the section championship heat for a chance to advance to state. Swimmers in places 9-16 will compete in the consolation heat for a chance to provide team points toward the section team title.

The top two swimmers and relays in each event will advance to state along with those making the time standard.

The section diving prelims and semifinals will begin at noon Saturday, Nov. 12. The Section final will begin at 4 p.m. at Brainerd High School.
