High School Football: Pirates fall in section final to Wheaton

FARGO — Corby Kern scored two touchdowns for the Verndale Pirates and they fell to the top-seed Wheaton-Herman-Norcross Warriors 40-14 in the Section 4 Nine-Man Final Friday, Nov. 4, at the Fargodome.

Kern scored a 1-yard touchdown to put Verndale ahead 6-0 in the first quarter.

Wheaton then rattled off 40 points unanswered before Kern scored another 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Kern rushed for 73 yards on 27 carries while Tyce Russell rushed for 78 yards on 12 carries for the Pirates.

Wheaton outgained Verndale 429-211 with 324 rushing yards to Verndale’s yards rushing 193.


The Pirates finished 9-2 with both losses coming to the Warriors.
