Track and Field: 18 Warriors headed to state

Brainerd competed in the Section 8-3A meet

ST. MICHAEL — Brenna Deason vaulted her way to a Section 8-3A title Saturday, June 5 with a 10-foot-4 effort to win the pole vault in the section final.

The Brainerd junior is one of 17 Warriors who advanced to the state meet. She’ll also compete in the 100-meter dash and as the anchor for the 4x100 relay with Kate Stadum, Myah Nelson and Molly Hagelie.

The Warrior girls and boys 4x800 relays also advanced. The girls' team is Emily Bastian, Annelise Baird, Brooke Wenz and Bridget Collins.

On the boys' side, Michael Howe, Baden Bastian, Thomas Ruhl and Brandon Stark make up the foursome. Start also qualified in the 400 dash with a runner-up time of 50.33. Dillon MacLaughlin advanced in the 200 dash with his second-place time of 22.65.

Andrew Albright, who already qualified for state in the triple jump and shot put, added another event to his resume by finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles. Gavin Hoelzel qualified in the pole vault during the Wednesday, June 1 prelims.

Hanna Caughey, who was already qualified in the discus, added the shot put to her state to-do list. She placed second with a 38-0 toss. Lilly Birks already qualified in the high jump and Madi Miller, who advanced to state last fall in cross-country added a trip to state in the 1600 run.
