Youth Baseball: South knocks off North in Mid-Summer Classic

The Mid-Summer Classic was played July 6 at Mills Field in Brainerd

BRAINERD — A nine-run seventh inning helped the South All-Stars notch a 16-3 win over the North All-Stars in the Parks and Rec Pony Baseball Mid-Summer Classic Wednesday, July 6, at Mills Field in Brainerd.

The South All-Stars took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on RBIs by Crosby-Ironton’s Creide Gressman and Brainerd/Baxter’s Evan Bolt.

North responded with a run in the bottom of the second. South added another run in the third on a passed ball.

Brainerd/Baxter’s Adam Harrington delivered a two-run single to make it 5-1 South in the fifth. The South All-Stars added another run in the fifth on a double steal.

North bounced back with one run on an error.

North’s Adam Martinson of Aitkin ripped a first-inning double and pitcher Owen Kruger of Pequot Lakes struck out the side to begin the game for the North All-Stars.

Pillager’s pitchers Alex Brandt, Landon Albertson and Grant Grimsley pitched the first three innings for the South All-Stars helping and allowed just one run.

Brainerd/Baxter’s Drew Herkenhoff and Gressman were co-MVPs for the South and Kruger was the MVP for the North.
