More than 500 mountain bikers, their friends and families are expected to arrive in Crosby the weekend of Aug. 21-22 for the Sixth Annual Cuyuna Crusher Race sponsored by the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber and the Minnesota Mountain Bike Series.

The Cuyuna Crusher takes place in the Mahnomen Unit of the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area.

“Don't just drive into town for the day on Sunday, Aug. 22 — we invite you to the Cuyuna Lakes to make a weekend of it. Bring your family and enjoy swimming, diving, fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding in our crystal clear mine lakes. You will not regret the chance to explore our great town and get a quality pre-ride to prepare for your race. Visit our local businesses that sponsor the Crusher, without them we couldn’t do what we do!” said Brielle Bredsten, chamber executive director, in a news release.

The event has online registration only.

Visit Race No. 9 — Cuyuna Lakes Crusher (mnmtbseries.com) for complete event details, maps, and register to race by 8 p.m. Aug. 21.

Organizers reported volunteers are needed for many different positions to help make the event a success.

To view volunteer spots, details and sign up, go to https://signup.com/go/rADrPjg.

Large group help is an option for community groups, scout troops or sports teams. Organizers noted they cannot host this event without volunteers and no experience is needed as there are many positions that require zero knowledge of the sport. Positions include check-in, trail stewards, directing traffic, packet pick-up, kids’ race, etc.

In exchange for their time, volunteers will be provided with a free T-shirt and a free meal and/or refreshments during their shift. Instructions, shirt and goodie bag may be picked up at Cuyuna Brewing Company during the Crusher Happy Hour from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 21.
