IRONTON-The Red Dirt Fest will be rolling its way into Ironton Aug. 5

The 2017 Red Dirt Fest goes from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. and is a free celebration of red dirt trails, bicycles and music based in Ironton's Morningside Park. The event, sponsored by Surly Bikes, will be presented by the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew and the International Mountain Bike Association.

"The best part is that all this takes place a few blocks south of downtown Ironton, meaning all sorts of red dirt and paved bike trails are just a few pedal strokes away," event organizers said in a news release.

Organizers added the highlight of the Red Dirt Fest is a lineup of four bands and entertainment that runs throughout the day on the stage at Morningside Park. The bands are Highchair Kings, Jud Hailey, Thirsty River and headliner The Last Revel.

RideMN will be entertaining the audience with high-spirited bicycle jumps and thrill shows throughout the day.

The Cuyuna Crew offers 10 group rides which are another highlight of the Surly Red Dirt Fest. "From daring to dandy, we have something for everyone," organizers said. All the rides will commence from Morningside Park and return to it. Sign up for the rides on the Red Dirt Fest webpage at www.cuyunalakesmtb.com/reddirtfest.html .

Another feature of the SRDF will be the Bicycle Games and Best Calves Contest.

The games will be Pixie Crit, Log Pull, Bike Joust and a Dunk Tank with local celebrities. Helmets will be required for participation in the games. More details on the webpage.

The Red Dirt Fest also has something for the little ones. The Crew will have a Strider Park and Strider Race Course for the youngest riders (ages 18 months to 5 years) to stride their way to the podium. Three lucky little Striders will take home a Strider bike and helmet courtesy of Striderbikes.com.

Raffle tickets will be sold in support of the event. A $20 raffle ticket offers the chance to win one of three bicycles, a trip to Ruttger's Resort, biking jerseys and lots of other really need swag.
