Running: Baird, Anderson pace Sour Grapes

Owen Baird of Brainerd in the half marathon and Thomas Anderson of Minneapolis in the 10.55-kilometer run were overall winners in Saturday's Sour Grapes Half and Half Trail Run at Northland Arboretum.

Baird, 44, finished in 1:34:51. Baxter's Jacquelyn Bacigalupi, 39, was the first female to finish the half marathon. Her time of 1:50:07 was fourth overall.

In the 10.55 run, Anderson, 21, finished in 45:36. The female winner was Chelsea Ornelas, 29, of Staples at 55:23.

Two hundred and twelve runners registered for the 16th annual event including 46 kids.

In the half-mile kids race, Luke Merseth, 7, Brainerd, with a time of 3:24 was the fastest runner in the field and took home the first-place boys award. Seven-year-old Breckyn Mankowski, Brainerd, took first for the girls with a time of 3:45.

In the mile kids race, Jake Merseth, 11, Brainerd, finished first overall and was the fastest boy with a time of 6:00. Alyssa Schommer, 11, Brainerd, won the girls division with a time of 6:36.

The youngest participant in the half and half event was 13-year-old Colin Yahn of Pequot Lakes who ran the course in 57:53. The oldest runner was 74-year-old Weldon Glockzin of Flint, Texas, who covered the course in 1:36:21.

For six consecutive years, the oldest participant in the half marathon was 82-year-old Charles Kielkopf of Columbus, Ohio, who finished in 3:23:02. The youngest participant in the half marathon was 13-year-old Griffin Johnson of Maple Grove who completed the course in 2:02:58.

In the half marathon there were 61 finishers (37 men, 24 women).

There were 81 finishers (18 men, 63 women) in the 10.55K run.
