ALEXANDRIA - The Pillager Huskies were looking for their first trip to state needing just one win Thursday, but came up short losing 3-0 and 9-4 to top-seeded New York Mills in the finals of the Section 6-1A Tournament.
Lacy Hiltner took the loss in both games giving up just one earned run and six hits in the opener.
Melinda Cunningham had two of Pillager's six hits including a triple in the first game, but the Huskies were unable to string any hits together and were stymied by 10 strikeouts.
Mills scored five runs in the first to start the second game. Madison Ruhl was 2-3 for Pillager and Cunningham drove in two runs with a single. Hiltner had an RBI double and Hailea Books also doubled.
Pillager had won five straight going into Thursday's games including a 5-4 win over the Eagles Tuesday to get to the finals of the double-elimination tournament. New York Mills beat the Huskies 13-6 and 11-2 during the regular season.
