ST. CLOUD - No. 2 ranked St. Cloud Cathedral just has the Little Falls Flyers’ number.

For the fourth time this season and sixth straight time over two seasons, the Crusaders topped the Flyers 6-0 during Thursday’s Section 6-2A championship game at Putz Field.

It’s the second straight season, the 20th-ranked Flyers have lost to Cathedral in the section final.

Kyle Boser was tagged with the loss. He allowed six runs on six hits, but all came in the first two innings. The senior pitcher struck out four and walked three.

Cathedral’s Brindley Theisen pitched the complete game shutout. He struck out five, walked two and allowed just four hits.

Boser had two of those hits as he finished 2-3. Brett Strack was 1-2 and Bryce Zawatzke went 1-1 with a walk.

Little Falls, which started the season 0-2, including a 10-0 loss to Cathedral, finished 16-7.

“Definitely our pitching has been our strength this year,” said Flyers head coach Chad Kaddatz. “Our team ERA, while it’s going to go up now, was 1.01 going into today. Since I’ve been here our best season prior to this was 2.09. We’ll be a whole point better than that this year. Our pitching was good and then some of our guys in the playoffs started swinging the bats a little better. We put some things together when it counted.

“We had to replace seven starters from last year’s team,” Kaddatz added. “There was a bit of a growth curve. But without a doubt this was the most cohesive and easy to coach group of kids I’ve had. All 19 kids on the roster were such a good group.”

The victory gives Cathedral head coach Bob Karn the state record for career wins with 708.
