The Wealthwood Gun Club of Aitkin held its annual "Seniors Shoot" on Thursday.
Each year, the club works with the Care Center at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center and invites senior citizen residents of the Care Center to the club to shoot clays at a special TRAP field the club sets up for the shooters.
This year, Care Center staff members, Kai Allen, Mary Dehning and Bruce Woodworth brought six residents to the club. The residents included Terry May, Clarence Ahlgrim, Albert Fort, Tom Johnston, Doug Christensen, and Dale Thorpe.
Each of the residents sat in their wheelchairs in front of custom made targets. They were able to shoot five times, one at a time, at their own targets. Each shooter used a .410 gauge shotgun, provided by club volunteers.
In any shoot of this nature, we like a supervisor to be on-hand, and resident Terry May wheeled-up for the task.

Resident Tom Johnston was the champion shooter last year and he went home this year with the same title, blasting four out of five clays. Dale Thorpe was on his heels for a short while and ended the shoot with three and one-half ... yes one-half as he put one BB into a clay target and left the clay hanging on the target frame!
The volunteers who helped assist each resident in their shooting experience were Ron Fox, Bob Hanson, George Carleton and Dave Miller. The weather was perfect, sunny with a little wind that made shooting a bit of a challenge for the shooters.
