Showy Lady's Slippers

Each year wildflower enthusiasts check a certain sport near the Monet Bridge in the Northland Arboretum to see the blooming Showy Lady's Slipper orchid. On Tuesday, June 16, the state flower is in peak bloom with several flowers located along a split rail fence. The uniqueness of the location is the flowers seem to all originate from one location and are not found anywhere else in the arboretum. Remember you have to be a member of the facility to hike the trails or buy a day pass. Steve Kohls / Brainerd Dispatch
