BEMIDJI — A four-run fifth inning catapulted the Brainerd Warriors to a season-opening 6-4 victory over the Bemidji Lumberjacks Friday, April 16.
Emma Tautges finished 2-4 with two RBIs, a stolen base and a run scored. Meghan Smith went 2-3 with two RBIs and Sam Stay drove in another run for the Warriors.
“Our kids played hard, faced and responded to adversity and found a way to win,” Warriors head coach Shane Jordan said. “We have not played a high school softball game in 689 days, so the outcome was only a bonus. As a coach, I’ve missed watching our kids compete, battle through adversity together and play a game that we love.
“Emma Tautges pitched well, Meghan Smith and Rachel Trusty had clutch hits.”
Tautges struck out nine over seven innings of pitching. She allowed four runs on eight hits and no walks.
